From the Moses Lake Herald on Aug. 22, 1941:

The Columbia Basin was booming in 1941. Grand Coulee Dam had been under construction for several years. The Basin was waiting for irrigation water to arrive. Residents were working hard and playing hard. Thus, the Moses Lake Grange and the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce sponsored a Harvest Festival and Water Carnival in August of 1941. Read on.

Local boy receives commercial license

-Clark Mattson from Yakima writes that he has just received his commercial license and will be at Moses Lake for regatta.

Dennis note: OK, Mr. Editor, We need some basic reporting here. What type of commercial license did Clark receive? Was it a commercial truck driver license? Can’t find any reference to a regatta, but perhaps the Water Carnival was considered a regatta. Aug. 23 and 24 were special days in 1941, with a Harvest Festival scheduled on Saturday, Aug. 23, and the Water Carnival planned for Sunday, Aug. 24.

Mae-Hiawatha News

-Friends were sorry to hear George Foster had resigned as Mae School Bus Driver. This position has been held by Mr. Foster for the past eight years., during which time he has a record of having no accidents and has received a certificate of each year for safe driving. Robert Pierce has accepted the position for the coming term.

-Mr. and Mrs. Beith and daughter of Ellensburg visited Mr. and Mrs. Weston Wyman Sunday. Mrs. Beith and Mrs. Wyman are sisters.
