Vandals, Broncos in search of wins

We thought maybe we’d be picking three games this week instead of two.

But Washington State apparently got stuck on Snoqualmie Pass on the way over to Seattle, and the Cougars were trounced by the Huskies in the Apple Cup. So Stanford, instead, will play USC tonight in the Pac-12 title game, and WSU, like U-Dub, will await its bowl assignment Sunday.

As for our picks, some of my mojo apparently didn’t make it back over Lookout Pass on the way back from Pocatello the previous weekend.

I went 1-2, also thinking Boise State would win in Fresno. Jason Elliott, he of the hunter orange pullover, went 3-0.

So overall, I am 77-35 for the season. Jason is 73-39.

COLLEGE

Idaho (3-8) at Georgia State (6-4)

Saturday, 11 a.m.

NELKE: Playing in a converted baseball stadium, the Vandals would like to finish with a home run — though the Braves didn’t hit too many homers in that spacious yard in the two decades they played there. It will be a tough task for Idaho as well. Georgia State is heading to a bowl game, while the Vandals are playing their final game as an FBS school after 22 seasons.

Georgia State, 26-18

ELLIOTT: Ah, what could have been for the Vandals this year. So much hope, but too many losses that could have been wins.

Add one more for the road.

Georgia State, 34-14

Fresno State (9-3) at Boise State (9-3)

Saturday, 4:45 p.m.

NELKE: Boise State gets to host this game, though Fresno, which beat Boise last week at home, was the team in the College Football Playoff rankings this weekend, not the Broncos. As of Thursday, only a little over half the seats in Boise’s 36,387-seat stadium had been sold, and the school was offering half-price on the remaining tickets. Throw in a plate or two of Real Thick Bacon from JB’s in Meridian, and we’re there. Seriously, though, Boise State shouldn’t lose to Fresno again, especially at home. If it happens, however, that should be a real fun bowl prep for the Broncos.

BSU, 27-17

ELLIOTT: Boise State sets up a bowl rematch with Washington State in Las Vegas ... maybe?

BSU, 30-20
