Local birders can take part in the Audubon Christmas Bird Count, an annual event during which more 72,000 volunteers in more than 2,400 locations count birds to help scientists monitor the health of their populations. This year’s count takes place Dec. 16.

Organizer Gene Reckin seeks people to participate either as field observers or at their own homes — especially those with bird feeders. For more information call him at 406-291-8482 or 406-293-9344.
