The Sanders County Sheriff’s Office has released more information on the deadly shooting that occurred outside Trout Creek on Nov. 25.
In a statement, Sanders County Sheriff Tom Rummel says the shooter is identified as 64-year-old William Tyree.
Tyree reportedly fled the scene after allegedly shooting to death one woman and wounding a man. He was later located with assistance of Two Bear Air after a short search. Rummel confirmed that Tyree was found dead due to a self-inflicted gun shot wound.
Though investigations are still pending, Sheriff Rummel states that at this time it can be revealed that investigations show Tyree was involved in a heated argument with 83-year-old Charles Moore prior to the shooting.
Moore was allegedly shot in the shoulder by Tyree and is recovering at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula.
The identification of the deceased woman has not been released. Rummel stated in the press release that he would be honoring the deceased families’ wishes of confidentiality.
“We are still investigating other aspects of the shooting at this time,” said Rummel when asked if the case was still open.
