SANDPOINT — A Bonner County man was found slain north of Clark Fork on Wednesday evening, sheriff’s officials said on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as George Andres, 73.

Detectives believe Andres interrupted a burglary in progress and was shot to death. His body was discovered in the 1200 block of Mountain View Road at approximately 6:12 p.m., according to a Bonner County Dispatch call log.

The sheriff’s office sent out warnings to the public around 9 p.m. via the Nixle notification system, Facebook and reverse 911.

“BCSO is currently investigating a suspicious death in the 1200 block of MT View Rd in Clark Fork,” read one Nixle alert.

“We are advising at this time that all residents in the area keep all doors and windows locked,” read another.

A follow-up alert urged residents to immediately report any suspicious activity in the area where Andres was discovered.

Sheriff’s officials on Friday appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity on Mountain View Roadd between Sunday and Wednesday.

“We are also seeking video surveillance that any homeowner might have from Highway 200 up to the Mountain View Road area,” Undersheriff Ror Lakewold said in a news release.

Mountain View Road is located in foothills of the Cabinet Mountains’ Lightning Creek drainage, about 3 miles northeast of Clark.

Sheriff’s officials said they had no suspect or vehicle descriptions at this time.

“Detectives are continuing to process the crime scene and canvass the neighborhood talking to neighbors,” Lakewold said in the news release.

Lakewold added that new information would be released when it becomes available.

Andres is the second person this year to be found dead in the Cabinet Mountain foothills of eastern Bonner County, although authorities say there is currently no evidence to support a connection between the two cases.

“We are, however, keeping an open mind as the investigation unfolds to explore anything that would connect the two. But certainly we are in the very early stages in this investigation and have found no connections. If we learn anything to the contrary, we will announce it and investigate it vigorously,” Lakewold said.

Shirley Ann Ramey, 78, was found shot to death in her home in the Trestle Creek drainage on April 5. Her killing remains under investigation.
