Newcomers make good
Newcomers in the farming district of Hiawatha Valley are Messrs Clarence Akerlund, G.L. Dutcher and A.D. Gabbert.
Mr. Akerlund came from Wenatchee with his family about a year ago. At the present time he has about 35 head of cattle and is milking 17 cows. He is building his second silo. He started from scratch and is making good in a big way. He knows the dairy business thoroughly. He was raised in Minnesota and Wisconsin where dairying is the principal industry.
G.L. Dutcher came to the Hiawatha Valley from Coulee Dam about nine months ago settling on the old “Dutch” place. Mr. Dutcher is doing general farming including dairying. He is making good.
A.D. Gabbert is another rancher in the Hiawatha Valley who is making good. He has a fine herd of Hereford cattle besides a fine dairy herd.
These gentlemen chose this section of Grant County because they feel that with the coming of irrigation and the probable developments to follow, it will become one of the most richly producing areas in the state.
