SERIES: Needs right sources
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 8 years, 9 months AGO
I just read part one of Kevin Richert’s series on the push to get more Idahoans “college” educated. It will be interesting where he goes with this and how many school counselors he spoke with to develop this story. I tried to find his email address, but could not, and it does not appear that there is a way to comment on the story on The Press or Idaho EdNews websites. I would love to spend time with him or one of your reporters talking about what this push has really meant to the families of high school students.
My take on the whole situation is that a group of well-meaning, yet uninformed, business people, school board members and administrators got together, came up with a plan and pushed it through the Legislature with very little input from the people who are tasked with carrying out the mission. As a result, a truckload of manure has been dumped into every school counseling office in the state. Those counseling offices are tasked with making it smell like roses without any real oversight as to how the money is spent, looking at measurable outcomes, or the negative impact on the students who see a pile of free money and they think it belongs to them to spend.
