In recognition of his dedicated service to the community, the Bigfork Chamber of Commerce presented the 2017 Little Red Hen Award to Mike Shea, longtime resident and volunteer.

The official “volunteer of the year,” Shea’s work includes serving with the Bigfork Chamber, the Community Foundation for a Better Bigfork, the Rotary Club, Bigfork Elves, Crown of the Continent, Bigfork schools, the annual car show, the Flathead Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, the Bigfork Fire Department and more.

Now in its ninth year, the Little Red Hen award honors the community’s top volunteer in honor of the “original Little Red Hen,” Elna Darrow.

Chamber board member Donna Lawson, the owner of The Jug Tree, presented the award, saying, “This person’s presence, behind the scenes good deeds and willingness to help others is so ubiquitous that it is easier to list the lives they have not touched than it is to list those this person has.”
