Loutzenhiser paces Lakeland

RATHDRUM — Sophomore Melody Loutzenhiser totaled 17 points and three assists for the host Lakeland Hawks, who jumped out early en route to a 58-36 victory over the Kellogg Wildcats in nonleague play Thursday night at Hawk Court.

“By far her best varsity performance,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “She just looked much more comfortable out there, and did a great job bringing ball up, penetrating when she could, looking to shoot, and the basket seemed to open up a little bit for us tonight.”

Sofi Schnepf added 12 points, nine steals and five assists, and Lauryn Cooper had nine points, eight rebounds and five steals for Lakeland (2-5), which jumped out to an 18-5 lead after the first quarter.

“Defense generated quite a few points early on,” Seymour said.

Lakeland travels to Clarkston tonight at 5:30.

Jaron Figueroa scored eight points for Kellogg (3-3), which plays host to Deer Park on Saturday.

ST. MARIES — Devyn Wilson had 23 points, nine rebounds and five steals for the Lumberjacks in a nonleague win over the Badgers.

St. Maries, which fell behind 10-0 early, outscored Bonners Ferry 34-17 in the second half to rally for the win.

“Bonners came out and had quite a few transition points and really ran the floor well,” St. Maries coach Jay Sines said. “The girls did a good job of fighting back and making it a game. The girls really stepped up and played well on the defensive end of the court.”

Kaci Haeg had 13 points and five steals and Madison Cordell added 11 points for St. Maries (4-3), which hosts Genesis Prep on Tuesday.
