POST FALLS — After nearly six years at the helm, Alison McArthur is no longer executive director of the Post Falls Senior Center.

The departure was confirmed Thursday by Greg McLean, board president, adding that seniors were informed during lunch on Wednesday.

McLean declined to say whether McArthur resigned or was fired, citing privacy reasons.

When asked if the reason she's no longer at the center is related to financial hurdles the nonprofit has faced in recent years, he said, "We need to sit down and look through the bills that have been coming in. Somebody will have to take a look at the books and let us know where we are."

Two years ago, the Idaho Lottery Commission revoked the center's bingo license over violation of record-keeping laws. McLean said the license has never been re-instated but the board is hopeful it will be in the future.

"The senior center, like many nonprofits, has struggled to find enough funding to keep us moving along," he said. "We are always looking for people who want to donate."

In response to inquiries from The Press for comment, McArthur texted, "I appreciated the opportunity I had for the last few years, but due to personal reasons I am in the process of a change."

McLean said the board appreciated McArthur's heart for seniors.

"She had a good rapport with the seniors and did a great deal, especially with marketing," he said, adding that she also expanded activities at the center. "We wish her the best in the future."

McLean said the board will examine the structure of the nonprofit before naming an interim executive director or searching for a permanent leader.

"We'll look at whether we need that position or whether we'll divvy up the duties to the people we already have," McLean said, referring to positions like chef and thrift store manager.

"We want to see if we have enough funding to re-open the position or go with a different structure. We need to look at the organizational outlook and see if there's a better way than it's run now."

McArthur has long been involved in the community in various ways, including on the Post Falls School Board, helping organize the River City Leadership Academy through the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce, the chamber of commerce board, Post Falls Junior Miss and the state's Serve Idaho Commission.
