WOMEN
OREGON CITY, Ore. — Former Lake City High standout Whitney Meier hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points off the bench as North Idaho College finished 3-0 and won the Clackamas College NWAC Crossover with a 74-63 victory over Lower Columbia on Sunday.
Meier was named tournament MVP. Sydney Hovde, an all-tourney selection, added 14 points and 12 rebounds for NIC (7-2). Cierra Dvorak, another Lake City product, had six points, nine assits, seven rebounds and six steals.
“It seemed like we had different people stepping up different days,” NIC coach Chris Carlson said.
“Whitney shot great, and Sydney was a force inside,” and several other players had their moments, Carlson said.
The game was tied at 61 after three quarters, and NIC outscored Lower Columbia 23-12 in the fourth.
“In the fourth quarter there was a focus by our players to defend and score, and they got it done,” Carlson said.
Kenya Lorton hit five 3s and scored 19 points for Lower Columbia (8-4). Tywanna Abbott also scored 19.
NIC returns to action Dec. 28-30 at the Lower Columbia College Holiday Classic in Longview, Wash. The Cardinals open Dec. 28 vs. Highline.
