Jog-a-Thon funder raiser exceeds expectations

The 9th annual Lutacaga Jog-a-Thon held Oct. 13 was a huge success. The elementary kids raised $11, 075.77, which exceeded their goal of $9,000. The students ran 8,023 laps in the school gymnasium.
The most laps awards per grade went to Bradley Miranda and Zayli Montes (kinder), first graders Ramon Carrillo and Rodrigo Gonzalez, Betsey Policarpio and Xavier Guzman (second grade), third graders Ester Policarpio, Fernada Rosales, Angel Maldonado and Isabelle Padilla, Kimberley Alcarez and Yandel Mendez (fourth grade), and fifth graders Jonathon Rios, David Salmeron and Irving Guzman.
The money raised will be used for books, manipulatives, and extra curricular activities, classroom prizes, teacher appreciation gifts, crossing guard rewards, marimba band instruments, library STEM projects and end of the year inflatable obstacle courses.

FFA judging teams among the best at Central Washington State Fair
YAKIMA — The Othello High School FFA judging team brought home several top honors from the Central Washington State Fair held in Yakima Sept. 26. Among them were a first place banner in Class 6 Livestock, and a second place finish by Alyson Shade who beat out all but one of 300 competitors from 61 high schools in the individual dairy judging. Sarah Wilson placed eighth in horse judging.
New York Times and Stanford University cite Othello at the top
The Othello School District is in the nation’s 100th percentile for student academic growth between 3rd and 8th grade according to an article published in The New York Times last week.
Annual Jog-a-Thon raises money for a good cause
The Othello PTA held its annual Jog-a-Thon fundraiser at Lutacaga Elementary Friday, Oct. 13. Kindergarten through fifth grade students were scheduled to run laps outside of the school, but the event was moved into the gymnasium because the weather on Thursday left too much moisture on the grass for the kids to run through.
