SELECT SOCCER

Sting Timbers FC 2000 girls: The USYSA Far West Regional League is a qualification league with state champions from five Northwest states qualifying.

The Sting Timbers FC continued their streak by qualifying two teams for the competitive 2017-18 league. The IYSA state champion 2000 girls and the state runners-up, the 2001/02 boys, both kicked off with games two weeks ago in Portland. Games were played in Vancouver and Portland in front of regional and national college coaches, giving players exposure to next level competition and recruiting.

The 2000 girls, coached by STFC Director Julio Morales, finished with a win and two losses on the opening weekend. The weekend girls roster was less than complete with travel challenges, illness and other conflicts. Sting Timbers FC goals against NEU out of Oregon were scored by Chloe Teets and Erika Skindlov. The game 3 shutout was preserved by goalkeeper Lily Foster and by a solid team effort by defenders Tiana Cydell, Eryn Ducote, Izzy Lehosit, Sophia Vietri and Addie Smart.

With a few training sessions during the holiday break, the Far West Regional League continues for both teams in Seattle early next month in conjunction with the PacNW College Showcase.
