Matheson lifts Vikings past Crusaders

COLBERT, Wash. — Sam Matheson scored 13 points and the Coeur d’Alene Vikings jumped ahead early en route to a 60-39 victory over the Northwest Christian Crusaders on Tuesday night.
Carter Friesz made 2 of 2 3-pointers and added 11 points for Coeur d’Alene (2-2). Kale Edwards had 10 points and eight rebounds, Caleb Beggerly five boards.
We did do a better job of taking care of the ball,” Coeur d’Alene coach Tony Hanna said. “We did a good job of controlling the game at the defensive end.”
Eckanelo Simpson led Northwest Christian with 13 points.
Coeur d’Alene plays host to Lakeland on Thursday.

SPIRIT LAKE — Freshman Brooke Jessen scored a season-high 23 points for the host Timberlake Tigers (7-2), who beat the Lakeland Hawks (2-6) 67-18 on Tuesday night in a nonleague game where the lights went out three times.
“She’s a really skilled player ... and her tammates did a good job of finding her tonight,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said of Jessen.
Lilly Kelley and Taryn Soumas each added 10 points for Timberlake, which plays host to Priest River on Thursday in its Intermountain League opener.
Lakeland visits Bonners Ferry on Friday.
