MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake head coach Tony St. Onge only has given out his “Iron Man” award — a swimmer that reaches state qualifying times in each individual event — one time.

Nick Jarman accomplished that feat in 1998. Zach Washburn added his name to that brief list Tuesday, completing that task against West Valley in a Moses Lake blow out 135-41. Washburn is the first freshman in school history to earn state qualifying times in every individual event.

Moses Lake swept the dual meet, winning every event.

Washburn won the 100 butterfly in 52.50 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.78. Ander Molitor picked up a pair of wins in the 50 freestyle (22.42 seconds) and 100 freestyle (48.91 seconds).

Moses Lake’s top-ranked relays also won comfortably. The 200 medley relay of Washburn, Brett Jorgensen, Eric Kemper and Ander Molitor finished first in 1 minute, 40.58 seconds — almost 17 full seconds ahead of Moses Lake’s ‘B’ squad.

Molitor, Dylan Bond, Garrett Lake and Noah Heaps — the 200 freestyle relay — won in 1:36.14, which was over 11 seconds faster than second-place West Valley.

Washburn, Bond, Kemper and Heaps clocked in at 3 minutes, 26.83 seconds in the 400 freestyle relay — almost 25 seconds ahead of another Chiefs relay team.

Moses Lake returns to competition Dec. 28 in Wenatchee.

Moses Lake 63, Davis 18

YAKIMA — Moses Lake moved to 2-0 in the Columbia Basin Big Nine with a road win against Davis 63-18.

Moses Lake picked up six pins and three forfeits.

Maximus Zamora (113), Hunter White (120), Xzavier Villarreal (126), BJ Mullin (160), Beau Mauseth (182) and Sebastian Rodriguez (285) pinned their opponents.

Hunter Cruz (170) won by technical fall and Jonathan Tanguma (106) earned a major decision, 15-3.

Moses Lake continues its CBBN dual schedule at West Valley on Thursday.

Boys basketball

Ellensburg 87, Ephrata 49

ELLENSBURG — Ephrata went cold offensively for three quarters in a row and lost to Ellensburg 87-49.

Ephrata led 21-20 after one quarter, but scored just 28 points over the next three. Ellensburg pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Ephrata 27-8.

Steele Venters led the Bulldogs with 27 points. Jakob Oxos scored a team-high 17 points for the Tigers.

Wapato 80, Quincy 27

QUINCY — Quincy could not contain DeMarius Brown and lost to Wapato 80-27.

Brown paced the Wolves with 17 points.

Toppenish 92, Othello 58

OTHELLO — Othello dropped its league game to Toppenish 92-58.

Adonis Shaul led the Wildcats with 20 points.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 53, St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse 33

RITZVILLE — Lind-Ritzville/Sprague led 30-20 at halftime, extended its lead in the second half and beat St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse 53-33.

Bryce Kelly led the Broncos with 15 points and Camden Smith had 14.

Ephrata 46, Ellensburg 45

ELLENSBURG — Payton Hagy scored 13 points off the bench and Ephrata held on to beat Ellensburg 46-45.

Hagy sunk one of two free throws to give the Tigers a four-point lead before Ellensburg’s Brinley Hagemeier made a three-pointer at the end of regulation.

Ephrata was in control for much of the game and lead 36-28 after three quarters. Jamie Oxos and Avery Mickelsen added seven points each.

Connell 57, Warden 42

WARDEN — Warden could not capture its first win of the season and lost to Connell 57-42.

Bailey Whitney scored a team-high 12 points.

St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse 59, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 54

RITZVILLE — Lind-Ritzville/Sprague was outscored by 11 points in the fourth quarter and lost in overtime to St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse 59-54.

Peyton Curtis scored a game-high 21 points and Lacey Miller added 16 for the Broncos.
