Badgers lose to state-ranked foes

The Bonners Ferry boys’ basketball team hosted one of the state’s top 4A teams, then traveled to the defending 1A Division II champions last week as the Badgers faced several tough nonconference opponents.
- On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the 4A Lakeland Hawks (4-0) shot 9-for-17 from 3-point range and beat the host Badgers 67-44.
Dylan Vahey scored 15 points, Dylan Knight 14 and Kaden Davis 13 for Lakeland, which is among the teams receiving votes in the Class 4A statewide media poll.
Dylan Hittle scored 14 points, Chris Sabin 13 for Bonners Ferry.
- The Badgers hit the road to face Newport on Thursday, Dec. 14, and never recovered from a slow start, falling 74-38 to the host Grizzlies (4-1).
Newport’s Danny Bradberry led all scorers with 18 points, while Hittle scored 13 to lead Bonners Ferry.
- On Saturday, the Badgers traveled to Post Falls to face Genesis Prep — defending champions and the second-ranked team among Idaho’s Class 1A Division II teams. The host Jaguars won 70-48. Further details of the game were not available.
- Bonners Ferry’s Tuesday, Dec. 19 game with Wallace was canceled due to hazardous travel conditions.
The Badgers return to action tonight, hosting St. Maries at 7.
