Polson PD recognized for service

On Saturday, Dec. 16, the Polson Police Department held its 2017 Awards Banquet and Christmas Party at Elk’s Lodge 1695.
Police Chief Wade Nash presented several awards to officers, including:
• Officer Cody Doyle, a Letter of Commendation for his quick assessment an incident that occurred on Nov. 10.
• Officer Becky McClintock, a Letter of Commendation for her swift action on Aug. 23, which led to the apprehension of a suspect at a casino.
• Officer Jim Atkins, a Letter of Commendation for his handle on a pursuit on Nov. 21.
• Officer Michael Wharton, a Meritorius Action Ribbon for an incident on July 8, as well as a Life Saving Medal for an incident on Oct. 24.
• Officer Hazeez Rafiu, two Meritorius Action Ribbons for separate incidents on July 8, as well as Officer of the Year 2017.
• Officer Aaron Sutton, a Life Saving Medal for an incident on Oct. 24.
Officers also took time to participate in the department’s Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest, in which Wharton and Officer Oscar Garcia, as well as Kyrsa Nash, won for their festive garb.

Polson woman pleads not guilty to homicide
Danielle Jeanette Wood pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide during a video arraignment Tuesday before Lake County District Court Judge Deborah “Kim” Christopher at the Sanders County Courthouse in Thompson Falls. Wood is charged with deliberate homicide in connection with the death of Thompson Falls resident Matthew LaFriniere in May 2018.
