ROYAL CITY — Corbin Christensen turned in a 20-point-7-rebound effort and Royal cruised past River View 54-31 on the Panthers home court Saturday. This one was never in doubt as Royal jumped out to a 14-5 first quarter lead and never looked back.

The Panthers managed to narrow the gap to 23-18 at the break, but the Knights outscored River View 31-23 in the second half to win by 13.

Gage Christensen finished with 8 points and 5 boards. Owen Ellis scored 7 points and hauled down 5 rebounds.

“I’m excited with the effort the boys are putting out,” coach Ray Valle said. “They’re leaving it all out on the floor and it was evident at Riverview.”

Royal moves to 2-0 overall on the early season and 1-0 in East Conference play. The Knights were back in action Tuesday at home against Columbia-Burbank, but the results were not available at press time. Royal takes on Naches Valley at home Friday night. Tipoff is 7:30.

Girls

The girls dropped a 58-29 contest to River View. Royal was also turned back by Goldendale in the teams’ opener and sport an 0-2 record to start the season. Coach Bud Wilhelm has been unavailable for comment.
