The accolades keep rolling in for Royal’s Wiley Allred who was named the Seattle Seahawks 2017 High School Coach of the Year.

The longtime coach of the Royal Knights, now in his 19th year at the helm of the program, was recognized prior to Seattle’s game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at CenturyLink Field. He received a $2,000 grant for his selection.

“It’s a great honor — a team award,” Allred said.

Things can’t get much better for Allred who was notified at the Royal High School annual football banquet he was being inducted into Washington State Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Jan. 27. The announcement came on the heels of the teams’ third consecutive 1A state title and the seventh under Allred. The Knights beat Meridian 33-27 to extend Royal’s win streak to 41 games — the states’ longest, which also ties the team for the sixth longest in the nation among all classification.

Allred was also among five other state championship coaches who raised the 12th Man Flag at the Seahawks-Rams game Sunday. The event was part of a new Seahawks plan to help generate support for youth football and youth sports in general throughout the State.

“The Seahawks are proud to name Coach Allred as the High School Coach of the Year for 2017, not only for his successful season on the field, but for his continued efforts in running a program known for building character, teamwork and discipline,” said Paul Johns, Seahawks director of youth & high school football programs, in a news release. “Through grants like the one presented to Coach Allred, the Seahawks aim to promote awareness of safety in youth football, and further strengthen the relationship between high school and professional sports.”
