BONNERS FERRY — The Badgers boys basketball team played a home game against St. Maries on Dec. 21. The boys strived to overcome their foe, but a slow start hurt Bonners Ferry in a 62-49 nonconference loss.

“We have been in a slump lately,” said coach Andy Rice. “We haven’t attacked enough and been on the offensive enough, but I hope by the end of the season we are playing our best basketball.”

For the undefeated Lumberjacks, Jackson Pritchard shot 5 of 9 from beyond the 3-point line and finished with 21 points, and Daniel Howard had 13 points and seven rebounds.

Chris Sabin led the Badgers (4-5) with 16 points.

With the cold weather, many people around Boundary County have been suffering from various illnesses, which put a few kids out of the game over the past couple weeks.

Despite that, Rice is optimistic, saying after the St. Maries game, “I thought we played better than we have been lately, and I think we are on the right track.”

On Wednesday, Jan. 3, the boys will be traveling to face off against Lincoln County High School, followed by their first league game of the season against Priest River at home on Jan. 6.

“I think that by Jan. 3 we will get some things hammered out,” said Rice. The boys are now 4-5 for the season.
