For Wildcats fans wondering why coach Jaxon Schweikert was not named the Montana Coach’s Association 2017 Football Coach of the Year, the reason is simple. Schweikert is not a member of the organization.

When asked about the topic at a recent basketball game, Schweikert said he is more concerned about the team and his players getting recognition for their accomplishments than he is about his own recognition.

“It’s all about the kids. That’s why were are out there and they are the ones that should be recognized for winning this championship. It’s not about me,” he said.

Schweikert said he was never eligible for the award, since he did not pay to be a member of the association (it costs $35 per year). The award was given to Hamilton head coach Bryce Carver, though the Broncos fell to Columbia Falls in the Class A state championship game, 26-14.
