RENO, Nev. — Lakeland senior Larry Johnson was the lone champion for the Hawks, claiming the 145 pound title at the Sierra Nevada Classic on Friday at the Reno Livestock Events Center.

“Larry wrestled tough and dominated his weight class at this tournament,” Lakeland coach Rob Edelblute said. “He’s really turned it up in his final year.”

William Edelblute was second at 120, Sam Edelblute fourth at 113 and Chandler Axtell sixth at 106 for Lakeland, which finished second in the 85-team tournament.

“It was a great weekend for our kids coming off the break,” Rob Edelblute said. “The kids just stepped up and wrestled hard. It was good to see they were ready to compete. Each of them showed a lot of grit in their matches the past two days.”

Lakeland travels to Kuna on Thursday, then competes at the Rollie Lane Invitational next Friday and Saturday at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.

Post Falls splits at The Clash

ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Trojans rallied from a 34-point deficit to win their second match 38-37 after falling 40-30 at The Clash duals tournament at the Rochester Regional Sports Complex.

“Our first dual was one we could have won,” Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. “We lost a couple of close matches. Our second match was just a crazy match. We needed three pins at the end, and we pulled it off.”

Mathias De La Rosa (145), Tyler Morris (152) and Braydon Huber (160) picked up Post Falls late.

SANDPOINT — Hunter Schueller (120 pounds), Jacob Krous (126), Payton Keough (132), Garrett Ashby (138), Mitchell Moffat (145), Brayden McFarland (152), Klayton Hindberg (160) and Gabe Zanetti (220) won by pin for the Vikings in a dual with the Bulldogs.

“The guys came out aggressive and it was nice to see since we haven’t wrestled since Tri-State,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “We had a couple of guys out and a new guy at 152 (McFarland), and it was good for some of those guys to get in and get a win. You want to see the guys working hard and scoring points, and they did just what we asked them to do.”

Coeur d’Alene travels to Borah on Thursday, then competes at the Rollie Lane Invitational next Friday and Saturday at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.
