COEUR d’ALENE — Iaian McLaughlin had 20 points and seven rebounds for North Idaho in a 83-47 win over Medicine Hat in the final game of the annual Coeur d’Alene Inn-vitational on Saturday at Rolly Williams Court.

NIC (10-3) was the lone team to finish the tournament unbeaten after beating Fairchild 106-67 on Thursday and Everett 90-81 on Friday.

“Iaian started for us tonight and they were really trying to contain RayQuan, and he ended up with quite a few attempts,” NIC coach Corey Symons said. “He can score the ball and they were giving him that shot, and he was knocking it down.”

Jacob Cowley and Tyler Brimhall had 12 points each for NIC, which jumped out to a 40-17 halftime lead.

“We played really good defense tonight,” said Symons, whose team held Medicine Hat to 17 of 73 shooting in the game. “We came out with some energy tonight, and did the same thing last night (in a 90-81 win over Everett). Medicine Hat has played well the entire tournament and we just got out to a good start.”

Brimhall was named tournament MVP, with both Jarod Green and RayQuan Evans also being selected to the all-tournament team.

In other tournament games, Blue Mountain beat Fairchild Air Force Base 81-71 and Everett edged Wenatchee Valley 88-86.

NIC opens Northwest Athletic Conference play next Saturday at Yakima Valley College.

LONGVIEW, Wash. — Lake City High product Whitney Meier scored 22 points for the Cardinals, who fell to the Riverhawks of Roseburg, Ore., in the championship game of the Lower Columbia Holiday Classic.

St. Maries High product Kelsey Auer had 13 points and four rebounds and Sydney Hovde 11 points and eight rebounds for NIC (9-3), which returns to action at Yakima Valley next Saturday in the Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both schools.
