CAROUSEL: Barbecue a bust

Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 years, 8 months AGO

Over the past few months I have been following the progress on the Coeur d’Alene carousel. I am aware of the lack of funding and the need for more money to complete the project. I planned to host a fundraiser this spring at the parking lot of the carousel and requested some help from many local stores. As of today, I have not heard from any of the stores. The only store in the area that stepped up to the plate to help out was Millers of Spirit Lake during the Bayview fire. Millers donated more than $400 worth of food to feed the firemen and local residents of Bayview affected by the fire. We then donated the leftover food to the Athol Food Bank. We thank Millers for their generosity.

The Coeur d’Alene Press offered to cover the Carousel barbecue in their fine publication and Commercial Printing of Coeur d’Alene offered to print flyers, but nothing at all from the grocery stores in the area. Needless to say, Sunwood’s Cowboy Bar-B-Q will not be able to host the event after all.

Over the past few years we have hosted many charity events to raise money for folks in the community in need and plan to continue helping at car shows and other activities that we’re a part of. We hope the carousel is completed by spring and that the community will enjoy it. This will bring back the small town feeling of the Coeur d’Alene area as we came to know more than 40 years ago when we moved here.

Happy Trails to all the good folks in Coeur d’Alene.
