The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks had a challenging night against the Eureka Lions, as it seemed that they were just a few steps behind at the basket in a 42-36 loss.

Gillian Nelson did much of the Thompson Falls scoring with 11 points and Ember Scwindt added 10 points. Two Eureka players also scored in double figures as Siena Utter had 11 and Erynn Their had 10.

The Lady Hawks did gain some ground in the fourth quarter, though the clock ran out before any more points could be scored.

Special election could cost thousands

The special election to replace former Montana Rep. Ryan Zinke has already begun to make big news in Montana. The financial impact to each county could affect already tight budgets cause even more challenging adjustments for the remainder of 2017. Many of the counties have created their budgets for this fiscal year and have very little room for major changes or extra expenses that they had not been taking into consideration in the previous year. The special election is the unexpected expense that Sanders County has to work on in the days, weeks, and months ahead.

Plains Horsemen and Trotters hoping for successful track season

The Horsemen and Trotters have a team of boys and girls that could very well surprise many competing against them this year. Even though the team had five seniors graduate last year and go on to compete in colleagiate track this year throughout the western region, Plains remains a contender to place high in track this year. There are nine boys on the track team this year, eight more than the previous year. Some of the members of the team are new to track, as Head Coach Denise Montgomery discussed during a recent practice.
