Robyn Lenore Phelps, 86

Beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother to generations and aunt, Robyn Lenore Phelps succumbed to heart failure on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017. A devoted Christian her entire life, she peacefully looked forward to joining those she loved in God’s kingdom. Born March 25, 1930, to Guy and Gertrude (Nice) Peoples, she was the eldest of five daughters, Colleen (Robert) Nygaard, Bonnie (Don) Peterson, Gay (Don) Stroup and Nancy Peoples. The sisters were always close, good friends and fierce protectors of each other.

Robyn married Edward Scofield, her high school sweetheart in 1949 and she gave birth to their daughter, Lynda, in 1950. Ed’s life was cut tragically short by cancer in 1952 and when his best friend Harold, also a school mate of Robyn’s, ran into her they began their romance which shortly resulted in marriage. Harold lovingly adopted Lynda and he and Robyn quickly set about producing four siblings for her. The two were inseparable, enjoying many wonderful adventures and enduring life’s hardships and tragedies side-by-side. March will mark their 64th anniversary.

Robyn was a renaissance woman, helping Harold build their home, raising their children, acting as caregiver and nurse, cooking, baking, canning, gardening, clearing the rubble and gluing things back together in the kids’ wake, sewing and singing as well as volunteering, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and achieving success in several aspects of the work world. (Whew!) She retired from Kootenai County Health and Welfare Services in 1992.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Colleen and Nancy; and her youngest daughter, Dawn Phelps McConnell. She will be dearly missed by her children, Lynda (Larry) Neuman, Susan (Patrick) Gray, Lee (Patty) Phelps and MaryBeth (Marco) Hernandez; grandchildren Heidi and Tyana Neuman, Trina, Brenda, Amber and Kylee Bradbury, Joshua, Bryan and Casey Phelps, and Alicia and Daniel Hernandez; bonus!-granddaughter Moesha Gray; and great-grandchildren, Moriah, Zion, Terah, Arthur, Alexander, Benjamin, Ethan, Tucker, Cody, Conner, Hannah, Hudson, Parker, Lilah, Colin, Campbell and Sheridan.

She was thrilled to pose for a five generations photo when her great-great-grandson, Jayce Bradbury, arrived (recently joined by sister Aaliyah.) She has many loving nieces and nephews, other descendants and friends who will fondly miss her. The world is a better place by her existence.

A celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at His Place Church, 3079 E. 16th Ave., Post Falls, Idaho. Potluck to follow.
