Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 7 years, 11 months AGO
Another year has come and gone, and for some it was very challenging. Our goal as Lions is to make Christmas time less stressful for parents and to bring smiles of joy to children on Christmas Day. This year, we were able to provide toys and gift certificates for over 1,000 children. With the addition of our food box, the recipients had a wonderful Christmas meal.
Our list of thanks is very long and space will not allow me to mention everyone, however, I would like to highlight a few of our great helpers. First, are the wonderful ladies who work all year long making handmade hats, scarfs and blankets. They also make small pillows and blankets for our wooden doll cradles. Also Pierce Auto for the truckload of great toys and bicycles. Once again the elementary schools came through with some huge monetary donations, and of course the entire student body of Sandpoint High School for their contribution.
At the top of those who supported the “Toys for Tots” drive are everyone who made a donation to this program. Major donations such as the Injectors Car Club. the Hoot Owl for the great spaghetti dinner fundraiser, and all the wonderful coffee drinkers who made a donation at the Schweitzer Conoco. We must also thank the many local businesses for providing a space for toys to be collected and for the coin jars.
We never can forget the role the local media played in getting the news out on our progress with our goal and the special side stories. Thank you Caroline Lobsinger, the Daily Bee and to Blue Sky Broadcasting for all you do for us.
To the many not listed, your contribution was greatly appreciated. Thanks again to the Marine Corps Reserve for all their help and the many volunteers who help us every year. Our biggest thank you must go to this very caring community and to all my fellow Lions who make the Toys for Tots program such a success.
