COEUR d'ALENE — If you want a Java Bowl of Soul, you're going to have to make the trek to Hayden.

After 22 years of serving downtown Coeur d'Alene, popular coffeehouse Java on Sherman is closing its doors.

Owners David and Lindsay Patterson made the announcement by way of social media and a note on the Sherman location's door.

"It's with great sadness that we are announcing the closing of our store here on Sherman Ave," the note read. "Our last day of business will be Wednesday, Feb. 15. It has been a pleasure serving the downtown community for 22 years."

Attempts to reach the Pattersons for comment Thursday were unsuccessful.

The closure comes three years after Java made the four-block move from the high foot-traffic area of 324 Sherman to 819 Sherman, the same location of other short-lived businesses.

Dubbed North Idaho's first coffee house, Java on Sherman was at the center of controversy in 2014 when a Coeur d'Alene police officer shot and killed a customer's dog that was inside a van parked in Java's parking lot.

The Sherman location will host a "Moving On" party on its last day Feb. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Java Hayden at the Prairie Shopping Center will still be in business.
