Jean E. Pistorius, 83

Jean E. Pistorius, 83, of Hayden Lake, Idaho, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Feb. 7, 2017. She was born Feb. 23, 1933, in Wallace, Idaho, to Jim and Mary Ellen (Dunsmore) Hand.

Jean was raised in Hayden, Idaho, where she attended school. She married Albert Pistorius in 1959 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They were blessed to spend 57 years together. Jean and Albert moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in April 1963. They lived there until May 1984 when Albert retired. After that, they liked to travel to new places that they had never been before. That brought lots of happy times for both. Their best trip was to Australia, which they liked so much that they went back two more times.

Jean loved playing her piano and also reading good books. She also liked playing cards and working crossword puzzles. Nothing made Jean happier than being around and helping small children. She was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Mary Hand; and her sister, Ruth. She is survived by her husband, Albert; daughter Sandie Jordan; son William Kopriva; brothers Boyd, Jim and John Hand; sisters Amy Walter and Carol Barton; and numerous grandchildren, family and friends.

A viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. today, Feb. 15, 2017, at Yates Funeral Home and Gathering Center in Hayden. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at Yates Funeral Home and Gathering Center, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden. There will be a reception following the funeral. Burial will be at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.
