James DeTienne won his weight class at the all-class state wrestling tournament in Billings over the weekend as the Savage Horsemen finished fifth as a team.

DeTienne exuded confidence when had his Lincoln County opponent, Cannan Smith, in the position he wanted him.

DeTienne (38-3) knew when he took down Smith that he just captured the Class B-C Montana 152-pound state crown in what was a grueling battle with Smith (37-3) Saturday afternoon at Rimrock Auto Arena in Billings.

DeTienne won four consecutive matches to capture the state title. He defeated Choteau wrestler David Finley, Huntley-Project wrestler Cory Kistler and Cuba’s Keaton Anderson en route to capturing the title.

Kane Lawson won second place in the 160-pound weight class and Daniel Uli won third place in the 120-pound weight class against Kahden Bakkila. Kaleb Frank won fourth place in the 113-pound weight class. Jesse Sorenson won second place in the 170-pound weight class. Thompson Falls placed 16th overall.
