Signs of winter fun are all around the community

SANDPOINT — Oh, yeah — Winter Carnival is here! Best thing is, we still have real signs of winter all around us. That includes not only the huge list of official activities through the weekend, but also a full calendar of concerts, plays, master classes, film series and live music like there’s no tomorrow.

The action starts this evening when the Music Conservatory of Sandpoint hosts a Winter Carnival musical event at Pend d’Oreille Winery. The classical sounds move to the Panida on Friday night for the Spokane String Quartet’s performance, followed by a weekend filled with so many options it’ll make your head spin.

Thursday, Feb. 16

‘A Taste of Music’

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 4-7 p.m. — Thursday, Feb. 16

Enjoy the celestial sounds of Marj Cooke on the harp followed by duo Sam Minker on the cello and Tess Halverson on violin. Ten percent of all will help support The Music Conservatory of Sandpoint scholarship programs. MCS has been creating musical magic in the downtown Sandpoint community for over six years as an accredited music school bringing low-cost and tuition-free music opportunities to Sandpoint youth.

This event is proud to be part of the Sandpoint Winter Carnival.

Ben Olson

Thursday Night Solo Singer/Songwriter Series. Come out for Thursday night solo music featuring Ben Olson. He’s a longtime local with a great sound you’ve probably heard with his band Harold’s IGA. Tonight, you’ll hear just him and his guitar.

Friday, Feb. 17

Spokane String Quartet

The Music Conservatory of Sandpoint hosts one of the Northwest’s premier string ensembles at this annual benefit concert. This concert supports MCS Scholarship Programs.

Harold’s IGA

Winter Carnival Kick-off Concert Bash. Tennis is Sandpoint’s official house band and they’re back in town for a special concert in the MickDuff’s Brewery. Taking place after the Winter Carnival parade, they’re going to light up the brewery and rock!

Friends of the Guitar Hour present South Hill Guitar Duo in Concert

Venue: Holy Names Music Center, 3910 W. Custer Dr., in Spokane.

‘Choices’

This new play, written by Brad Field of North Carolina and directed by Kristi Bell, joins a Mid-Western farm family as they navigate some very tricky issues. Pappy has been farming this land for most of life; now he has some big decisions to make. The cast includes Chris Demlow, Ben Kardos, Paulina Staab, Gillian Monte, and Scott McMeen.

It’s the 3rd annual Winter Carnival Cornhole Classic (rain or shine) back at the MickDuff’s Beer Hall!
