n World Championships — Lots of action in St Moritz week. Lindsey Vonn was the top US finisher with a bronze medal in Downhill (her 7th World Championship medal). She was also 5th in the Alpine Combined, followed by Laurenne Ross at 15th. Bryce Bennett led the men with an 11th place finish in Alpine Combined followed by Brennen Rubie in 15th. Jared Goldberg was the top men’s downhill finisher, placing 20th.

n Northwest Cup No. 2 — Nearly 200 junior racers competed in USSA sanctioned Slalom and Giant Slalom competition last weekend. The snow was very hard, however broke down about mid-field every race, leaving abrupt ruts for the late runners. The top local finisher was Farli Boden, who finished 4th overall in Slalom and twice finished 12th overall in Giant Slalom. Second year U16 Morgan Wohlaib performed well, placing ninth in her age group in Slalom and 14th and 15th respectively for Giant Slalom. These results were important given that this event doubled as a U16 Championship qualifier. Addison McNamara finished 6th in Slalom and 13th in one of the giant Slaloms for U16s. Both of these athletes will complete the qualifying process next week with speed races at Mount Bachelor.

Other local competitors were Baden and Catherine Brenner and Myriah Stenvers.

n Emerald Empire League No. 2 — 49 Degrees North hosted the next round of racing for the Under 12 crowd, with two slalom races last weekend. Top local finisher was Avery Edmundson, who placed 3rd and 5th for U12s. Sister Erika Edmundson also skied well posting finishes of 6th and 9th. Caden Billstin placed 7th for U12s on Saturday, but disqualified Sunday. Klein Fragoso placed 10th for Y12s on Sunday. Other competitors were: Berkeley Cox, Riley Murphy and Crosby Schmidt.

n Starlight Racing begins Friday — Week number two brought hard snow, which played into the hands of former Division I NCAA racer Chris Acosta, who was the fast racer on the day. However, dinosaur points prevailed in the adjusted scoring as he slipped to third behind the old guys. Alex Wohlaib was second fastest male skier, followed closely by Luke Opel.

The fastest woman was Sara Hawn, a mother of two with no race experience defying the hard snow odds She was followed by Lynn Dibenedetto and Allison Gillis. The fastest snowboarders were Beau Marshal and Tracy Tuttle. The fastest telemark skiers were Dylan Taylor and Kerri Kuntz. After two weeks, No. 5 BadKnights leads the standings, followed closely by the Gate Haters and Our Skis are Dragon. And the team name of the week is “Dead of Knights.”
