On Saturday, Feb. 25, the Kinnikinnick Native Plant Society and Sandpoint Parks and Recreation will host a presentation on the proposed Scotchman Peaks Wilderness.

The program will be held from 9:45-11:30 a.m. at Sandpoint Community Hall. Phil Hough, executive director of Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness, will be speaking.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in English literature in 1981 and spending 20-plus years working in hotel/hospitality management, Phil moved on to pursue a career in environmental activism. He moved to Sagle in 2002 where he became the executive director of the Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness. Hough has received several awards for his accomplishments with the FSPW.

Hough is a founding board member of the Idaho Trails Association, past president of the American Long Distance Hikers West Association, past president of the Kinnikinnick Native Plant Society, and former chair of the Bonner County Aquatic Invasive Species Task Force. His love of the outdoors has led him to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail, the Continental Divide Trail, the Pacific Crest trail and to paddle the length of the Yukon River. During the summer months, Phil has led backcountry trips for the Galena Ridge School for troubled teens.
