The Wallace boys basketball team did their senior cheerleader’s proud Thursday night when they defeated the visiting Clark Fork Wampus Cats 76-64.

Before the game began, senior members of the Wallace Cheer leading squad were recognized with a ceremony.

With no seniors of their own, the Wallace boys jumped right into the game after the ceremony.

In classic Miner fashion, the story of this game was similar to many the boys have played before in the sense of outworking their opponents three-fourths of the game, then letting of the gass a bit in the final minuets.

Although the first half was a fairly close contest, Wallace led the game at half 34-29.

The third quarter is were the Miners really turned on the jets and scored 25 points to Clark Forks 14.

Wallace Sophomore Erik Brackebusch lead the third quarter offensive charge by scoring 10 of the 25 points.

After the strong third quarter ended though, Wallace’s late game troubles reared their ugly head and threatened their lead.

“We need to play better defensively,” Wallace coach Corey Miller said. “When we get up, we just kinda go through the motions.”

That is a bit of an understatement considering the Miners were out scored 21-17 in the final quarter of the game.

Even with the poor defensive play that ended the game, Wallace still waled away with the win due to strong offensive play.

Brackebusch, junior Matt Farkas, junior Hunter Gust, and sophomore Zack Welch all reached double digits in points scored.

“Offensively, we had great rhythm,” Coach Miller said.

With this win, the Miners (6-2 league) are looking forward to their play-in game next Wednesday at 5p.m. at Post Falls Middle School against an unknown white-pine league opponent.

“We have a pretty good shot this year,” Miller said. “We have the talent to get it done.”
