POST FALLS — Leading by six points at halftime, the top-seeded Post Falls Trojans shut out the fourth-seeded Lake City Timberwolves in the third quarter en route to a 63-48 victory in the first round of the 5A Region 1 boys basketball tournament Friday night at The Arena.

Post Falls (16-2) outscored Lake City (15-6) 15-0 in the quarter to build a 21-point lead.

“Our halftime talk was pretty simple — we had to do better defensively,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “We just didn’t have any attention to detail in the first half.”

Post Falls will play host to Lewiston (12-8) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at The Arena in the regional championship game.

Jake Pfennigs had 17 points and 19 rebounds for Post Falls. Drake Thompson added 14 points and five assists.

Kenny Louie-McGee hit all four of his 3-pointers in the first half, and scored 17 of his 26 points before halftime for Lake City, which plays at Coeur d’Alene (10-10) on Tuesday in a loser-out game.

LEWISTON — After an up-and-down regular season, the defending regional champion Bengals put it all together in beating the Vikings in the first round of the 5A Region 1 tournament at Booth Hall.

Braeden Wilson scored all 11 of his points in the first quarter for Lewiston (12-8). Trystan Bradley scored a game-high 23 points for the Bengals, and Keeshawn Clarke added 15.

“They shot it well,” Coeur d’Alene coach Tony Hanna said of Lewiston. “We were trying to take away Bradley and (Riley) Way, and Wilson and Clarke stepped up for them. They shot the ball well, and we didn’t.”

Brody Lundblad scored 18 points for Coeur d’Alene (10-10), which plays host to Lake City on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a loser-out game. The Vikings were just 7 of 16 from the free-throw line; Lewiston was 13 of 15.

“To compound our poor shooting, we didn’t rebound well,” Hanna said. “We had a rough time putting the ball in the hole tonight.”

PRIEST RIVER — Colton Counts and Brenden Jessen each scored 14 points as the Tigers rolled past the Spartans in the Intermountain League finale for both teams.

Jacob James added 11 points, Brayden Menti 10 for Timberlake (11-7, 6-2 IML), which finished second in league.

“The one thing we didn’t do (Thursday) night (in a loss at IML champ Kellogg) was run through our offense,” Timberlake coach Michael Scott said. “Last night Kellogg did a good job speeding us up, and tonight we waited for the open layin.”

A coin flip will be held today between Priest River (6-14, 3-5) and Bonners Ferry (8-10, 3-5) to determine the third and fourth seeds to next week’s 3A District 1 tournament at North Idaho College. Timberlake will play the winner of the coin flip on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.; the loser will play host to Coeur d’Alene Charter on Monday in a district play-in game.
