Skullduggery and gold-digging on the high seas

The legendary swashbucklers from Robert Louis Stevenson’s adventure novel “Treasure Island” will sail onto the stage again tonight at Post Falls High School.
The production of Ken Ludwig’s stage adaptation of the Stevenson classic opened Thursday and performances continue this weekend and next.
The show is being presented in Post Falls High’s new Performing Arts Auditorium, which opened in October.
Described by the London Telegraph as “a gripping yarn with a genuinely rough-and-ready buccaneering spirit,” the story begins at an inn on the Devon coast of England in 1775 and quickly becomes a tale of treachery and mayhem featuring a host of colorful characters.
At the center of it all are Jim Hawkins, a 14-year-old boy who longs for adventure, and the infamous Long John Silver, who is a complex study of good and evil. Silver is an unscrupulous buccaneer-rogue whose greedy quest for gold, coupled with his affection for Jim, cannot help but win the heart of every soul who has ever longed for romance, treasure and adventure.
The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. tonight and Saturday and again Feb. 23, 24 and 25, at the high school, 2832 E. Poleline Ave., Post Falls.
