COEUR d'ALENE — A former Lake City High School student body president may be going to prison.

Travis D. Young, 19, was sentenced Monday to five years — two fixed, three indeterminate — for two counts of injury to a child.

Young admitted to having oral sex on multiple occasions with a 14-year-old girl with autism, according to investigators, and was initially charged with two counts of lewd conduct with a child.

Because the charges were amended, Young, a 2016 graduate of LCHS, will not be required to register as a sex offender after serving his sentence. He was, however, sentenced to the retained jurisdiction program and could be deemed an appropriate candidate for probation. If not, he will serve at least two years in prison.

On Aug, 23, 2016, the victim's mother reached out to authorities, noting that Young, who was 18 at the time, was having an inappropriate relationship with her daughter.

According to the police report, he began to pursue the victim, giving her an iPod so the two could communicate in secret.

According to the police report, the victim told investigators she and Young dated and the two met last spring when the girl wanted to get into student government.

When the mother discovered her daughter had been sending inappropriate pictures to Young, the report said, she took away the iPod and her phone. Soon after, she noticed Young outside the family's house, flashing his car lights to get her daughter's attention.

The mother went outside and ran Young off, according to the police report, telling him to stay from her home and her daughters, and contacted the police.

When Young was later questioned by investigators, he admitted to having a sexual relationship with the victim and was arrested for lewd and lascivious conduct.
