COEUR d'ALENE — Michael J. Elliot was sentenced to four years in prison Monday for possessing 32 marijuana plants and pipe bombs at his Hauser home.

Elliot, 48, was convicted of felony controlled substance of marijuana greater than three ounces and felony possession of a destructive device which propels shrapnel. Two years of his sentence are fixed.

Elliot was arrested Nov. 16 after authorities found marijuana, paraphernalia and several suspicious devices at his residence, according to a police report. Twenty of the plants were growing in a backyard greenhouse.

Kootenai County Sheriff's deputies discovered the marijuana when conducting a welfare check at the Hauser home. After deputies found a cache of C02 cartridges filled with gunpowder, they contacted a Spokane bomb squad for assistance.

According to the bomb squad, the cartridges were a form of improvised explosive device dubbed "crickets."

The police report noted that Miler admitted he obtained marijuana in Washington and decided to grow in Idaho.
