Missing elderly couple found safe in car

COEUR d'ALENE — An elderly couple reported missing Friday night was found safe in their car Saturday morning.

John E. Mann, 69, and Sylvia J. Mann, 72, both of Condon, Ore., were en route to a relative's home in a remote area of east Coeur d'Alene when their 2002 Jeep Liberty became stuck on a ice-covered driveway near Blue Creek Road and Newell Road.

The couple had called their relatives around 7 p.m., according to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, to inform them they were on their way up Blue Creek. When the couple didn't show, the family contacted the sheriff’s office.

Officials put out a press release at 6:30 a.m. Saturday asking for the public's assistance.

At 8:25 a.m., KCSO's volunteer search and rescue team — working in coordination with the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center — located the missing couple inside their vehicle.

Both were found in good condition and were soon reunited with their family.

To stay warm, they used blankets and intermittently used their vehicle's heater throughout the night. There was also food and water in the vehicle.
