Arthur Guy Randall, 91

Arthur Guy Randall, 91, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, died Feb. 17, 2017. He was born to the late Ann (Netick) Randall and late Arthur Knutson on Sept. 12, 1925. The late Wilbur (Bill) Randall was his adoptive father.

Art attended Lewiston High School and graduated with the class of 1943. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve in Portland, Ore., and served in the Navy until May 1946. After graduating from the University of Idaho with assistance from the GI Bill, he headed to Alaska as a geologist and met the late Sylvia Esther Paplham, a draftsperson. Art and Sylvia were married in 1951 in Anchorage, Alaska. Art completed a master’s degree in geology at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

Art’s loving memory is kept alive with two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna (Paul) Randall Hagner of Fremont, Calif., and Tracy (Brian) Lien of Liberty Township, Ohio; and two sons and daughters-in-law, Kent (Pam) Randall of Los Altos, Calif., and Gary (Nancy) Randall of Albuquerque, N.M. Grandchildren include Kelly (Chris) Malatesta, Whitney (Matt) Danenhauer, Kate Hagner, Sarah Randall, Cory Lien and Justin Lien. Two great-grandchildren include Claire and Blake Danenhauer. An infant daughter, Cindy Ann, preceded Art and Sylvia in death. Survivors include Jean Randall, wife of his late brother, Don; and Viola Seidl, sister of Sylvia.

Art will be remembered as a kind, loving father and grandfather. He was patient, kind, supportive, encouraging, full of interests and enjoyed life.

A memorial service, with Pastor Craig Sumey presiding, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene. Art will be buried in Kewaunee, Wis., next to Sylvia, who passed in March 2013.
