POST FALLS — A suspicious fire destroyed a mobile home in Post Falls early Monday morning.

The female owner of the home was reportedly in custody at the Kootenai County jail at the time of the fire in the Savoy Trailer Park east of Ross Point Road and north of Maplewood Avenue.

Neighbors also told responders another occupant of the home was seen removing contents on Sunday.

"That's why a full-court press is being used on the investigation," said Steven Isaacson, Kootenai County Fire and Rescue division chief.

There were no injuries and no one was home at the time of the fire.

"A neighbor woke up around 2:30 a.m. hearing a pop," Isaacson said. "When the neighbor looked out, there were flames."

When firefighters arrived, the structure was fully engulfed, Isaacson said.

"When trailers burn, they burn fast," he said. "Most of the contents had been cleared out."

Isaacson said fire crews did a great job of containing the fire to the one structure. Coeur d'Alene Fire and the Northern Lakes Fire District assisted KCFR with the fire.

"About 1,000 feet of hose was used to get to water," Isaacson said.

It was originally reported there were people inside the home who were banging on the windows for help. However, that report was later deemed unfounded.

"Officers attempted to enter as far as possible, but the heat was overwhelming," Post Falls Police's Facebook page states. "Officers began to break out windows near the living room … ."

Isaacson added: "We went into an aggressive internal attack on the fire upon arrival until we learned that the structure was free of occupants."

An investigation conducted by KCFR and the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office continues.
