RATHDRUM — Once they got to work, there wasn’t much stopping the Genesis Prep Jaguars on Thursday.
Junior Williams scored 26 points — 14 in the first quarter — and finished 6 of 6 from beyond the 3-point line for 26 points, leading the Jaguars past the Lakeside Knights 90-43 in the 1A Division II District 1 championship game on Thursday at Lakeland High.
Genesis Prep (18-4), winners of a second-straight district title, will open at state next Thursday at 7 p.m. PST at Caldwell High.
“We went to work and that work led to us eating and scoring on offense,” said Genesis Prep coach Marsell Colbert, whose team jumped out to a 35-12 lead after the first quarter. “That’s how we want to play defense. And when we play good defense, it makes our offense go easier.”
Jonny Hillman had 18 points and nine assists and Stephane Manzi 12 points and eight rebounds for Genesis Prep.
Alex Pakootas scored 10 points for Lakeside (9-11), which moves on to a state 1A Division II play-in game on Saturday in Moscow against the runner-up from District 2.
