n World Championships — It’s all about Mikaela Shiffrin, surely the best female technical event racer in the World. This week she won her third consecutive Slalom World Championship, a feat not done in 78 years. She also took Silver in Giant Slalom. She was followed by Resi Steigler, who placed 11th in Giant Slalom. On the Men’s side, David Chodounsky set the pace with 11th in Giant Slalom and 12th in Slalom.

n Evergreen Cup Races — Mount Spokane hosted three Evergreen Cup races last weekend, giving U14s an opportunity to advance their rankings. A number of athletes from SARS and Independence Racing competed. Graycn House had a great weekend, taking 3rd in Giant Slalom, and 2nd and 3rd in the two Slaloms. Quincy Evans also had a big weekend, with two 5th place finishes and a 6th place. Laura Boge finished in the top 10 for Giant Slalom, then 12th and 15th in Slalom.

On the boys’ side, Slate Fragoso was 8th in both Slaloms on borrowed skis (his broke during warm-ups). Wesley Simko skied solidly to 9th and 10th place finishes. Kjetel Lund-Anderson was 11th in the first Giant Slalom, then picked it up finishing 7th in the second.

n Banked Slalom — Schweitzer hosted a Stomp Games banked slalom the weekend before last. More than 50 athletes competed in various age groups. Local Medalists were: Girl Snowboard – Emma Hall; Boy Snowboard 9-10 – Kildy Pogue 2nd; Boy Snowboard 9-10 years old – Avery Smart, Issac McCray and Lucas Hanson were first, second and third, respectively.

Logan and Chandler Sanborn were 1st and 3rd respectively for U18 snowboard, Katie Bradish won 19-30 snowboard, and rounding out the 40+ ladies, Tracy Tuttle, Sheyna Rust and Rebecca Appl finished 1,2,3 on the day.

In men’s 30-39 snowboard, Kip Shield led the pack, followed by Nick Rust and Rory Witney. Melinda Rossman won the Skier Women category. Matt Gillis and Brett Taylor were 1st and 2nd for U40 male Skiers while Scott Barksdale, Jeff Bowman and Michael Williams were 1, 2, 3 for Over 40 Male skiers. Many competitors complimented the course set-up.

n Chicked! — The only thing worse for a guy than crashing is being whipped by the fairer sex. OK, in fairness it was an icy surface and Courtney just finished four years of Division I racing… The good news is that the old guys still have dinosaur points to save the day.

Alex Wohlaib was fastest male skier, followed closely by Rudy Kadzejs and Scott Barksdale. The fastest woman, Courtney Altringer, was followed by Teresa Kemink and Lynn Dibenedetto. The fastest snowboarders were Shawn Taylor and Tracy Tuttle. The fastest telemark skiers were Dylan Taylor and Dig Chrismer.

Going into the final week of competition, #5BadKnights leads the standings, followed by the Gate Haters and Our Skis are Dragon. And the team name of the week is “Boogie Knights.” The series ends on Friday, with the great post-event party in Taps.
