The students are back in the swing of things after having an extended break due to the abundance of snow. All of us at VVES are looking forward to some consistency to our week to assist with learning and comprehension. The staff continues to work hard at challenging each individual student while providing a safe, civil, and productive environment.
In January we celebrated the monthly character of fairness. It is my privilege to announce that the following students were named Super Star Citizen of the Month: Kaitlynn Kittell, Taren Bateman, Libby Smith, Allie Johnson, Gracie Munden, Markynn Pluid, Teresa Shottanana-Ponce, Mary Moon, Quentin Phelps-Beagle, Lylah Anderson, Jasmine Stolley, Kai Aitken, Jack Webster, Cameron Kerttu, Peyton Malizia, Amauri Ortiz, and Charlie Patton (see picture).
The annual BCSD 101 Spelling Bee was held on Saturday, Jan. 28, for all 3rd-8th graders within our district. It is my honor to communicate that VVES 3rd grader, Jacoby Wenzel placed 1st in his division. In addition, 4th grader, Kylie Kimball placed 1st in her division. These two great spellers will represent our area in the Regional Bee at North Idaho College on March 18th.
Congratulations to all the students from our district who competed in the spelling bee. They each did a great job and we look forward to watching them perform next year! Thank you to Dottie Gray and the many other helping hands that made this event possible. It is people like them that make Bonners Ferry a special place to live.
Mrs. Petesch continues to challenge families to work out together by highlighting students in the Family Fitness Challenge. This month the winner is a 2nd grader, Emilie Bourassa in Mrs. Smith’s class and she received a new badminton racket set. If you would like more information regarding the Family Fitness Challenge, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Petesch at the school.
The 5th grade Leadership Team is at it again this past month collecting food for those in need. It was a great event and I want to personally thank everyone who donated non-perishable food for the cause.

It is great to be back in school today seeing all the smiling faces and high fives in the hallways. The midway point of the school year is approaching and the holidays are behind us. This month at VVES we continue to personalize education, recognize student achievement, and as always provide a safe, civil, and productive environment.
