COEUR d'ALENE — For the fourth time in a decade, seasonal snowfall has reached the century mark.

According to meteorologist Randy Mann, the Coeur d'Alene total reached 98.1 inches by 4 p.m. Monday as the snow continued to fall. The expected afternoon and overnight snow should push the winter’s total above 100 inches.

"This is unprecedented" Mann said. "If a lot of this rain had come in as snow, we'd be at 150 coming in at 175."

The heavy winter of 2007-08 saw 172.9 inches of snow blanket the Lake City, followed by 146.6 inches in 2008-09.

Before 2007, the highest totals were 124.2 (1915-16) and 117.8 (1968-69).

"There’s a chance we could rival (1968-1969), or see this season end in the Top 5. It will be close," Mann said.

Snow will turn to rain Wednesday, Mann said, but is expected to return late in the week.

"In terms of total moisture, rain and melted snowfall, we’ve had 7.82 inches as of 4 p.m. for February," Mann sid. "We crushed the record of 6.49 inches back in 1940. We’ll end up over 8 inches for this month."
