Florence
Peterson, 92
Florence Marie (Hawley) Peterson, 92, of Rathdrum, Idaho, passed away peacefully Dec. 28, 2016, at Hospice House in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, with family members around her. She will be sorely missed by family and friends.
Florence was born March 1, 1924, in Sunnyside, Ore., to Joe and Faye (McCoy) Hawley. She went to school and gradated from Kellogg High School in Kellogg, Idaho, where she met and married her soulmate and the love of her life. William L. Peterson married Florence on Sept. 21, 1945. They raised four children: William J. Peterson (wife Cecilia), Dorene D'Andrea (husband James), Marie Armitage (husband Gerry) and Daniel R. Peterson (wife Debbie). They moved their young family to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where for 50 years, they worked hard to provide a home for their family.
Florence raised a huge garden and canned, preserved and stored food for their family. She sewed the children's clothes, prepared the meals and was a stay-at-home mom. As children, we knew that when we came home from school or play, Mom would be there. She gave her spare time to Boy Scouts for Bill and Dan, and Campfire's for Dorene and Marie.
Florence loved sewing, reading and camping. She also liked attending, with her husband, Bill, the baseball games and 4-H Fairs that their 13 grandchildren participated in and all the birthday celebrations of the 27 great-grandchildren and holding the four great-great-grandchildren.
Florence's husband, William L. Peterson, preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 2009, at the age of 92. They shared 64 years of marriage together. Now, they are together again. We all love you both.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at Yates Funeral Homes, Coeur d'Alene Chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery. You may visit Florence's online memorial and sign her guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
