WARDEN — After the game, Warden head coach Wes Richins said Okanogan did not scout his team much.

Next time, the first entry on the scouting report will be: guard the perimeter.

Warden bombarded Okanogan from long range in the first half and won comfortably 69-57.

“We shot a lot better tonight than we did last Thursday,” Richins said. “They’re a very physical team. Their league is really physical so it was good for us to battle with that and we knew they were going to have a run in the second half — just try and withstand it.”

In spite of the wide margin of victory, Warden did its damage with two starters out for the majority of the game. Point guard Zach Richins left after the Cougars’ first possession with an ankle injury and center Tanner Skone was saddled with foul trouble.

In their absence, wings Adam Richins and JR Delgado ignited. Adam Richins and Delgado sparked an 8-2 run to start the game and combined for 21 points in the first quarter.

Neither cooled off in the second quarter as Delgado added 10 more points to his total — outscoring the Bulldogs as a team in the first half — and Adam Richins tacked on seven more.

“I pulled them aside this last week and said, you know what, that’s your job,” Wes Richins said. “They’re senior captains; They’ve been around. We have a whole bunch of sophomores that they’re playing with and they’re not used to these big situations so I expect them to step up when the pressure’s on. When we need to get a bucket, when we need to get a stop they need to be the ones that are leading the way.”

A three-pointer by Adam Richins from the right wing — one of the team’s nine made shots from distance in the first half — pushed the Cougars’ lead to 20 points in the second quarter, 32-12.

The free flowing game in the first half game to a screeching halt in the second half as the Bulldogs were able to get more inside looks and the officials grew fond of their whistles.

Skone picked up his fourth foul early in the third quarter. Okanogan’s Jordan Jessee took advantage of Skone’s absence on the interior with 12 third-quarter points.

Despite Jessee’s outburst, Warden still led by 20 points after three quarters and staved off a final run in the fourth quarter.

Delgado totaled a game-high 32 points and Adam Richins had 24.
