Hillman, Manzi shine for Genesis Prep boys

BONNERS FERRY — Jonny Hillman scored 11 of his 21 points in the first quarter as the 1A Division II Genesis Prep Jaguars routed the 3A Bonners Ferry Badgers 82-41 on Thursday night in nonleague play at Bonners Ferry Middle School.
Hillman also had 10 assists for Genesis Prep (6-3). Stephane Manzi had 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Jaguars.
“We shared the ball,” Jaguars coach Marsell Colbert said. “We worked hard on the defensive end, and we shared the meal on the offensive end.”
Kaleb Stockton led Bonners Ferry (3-4) with 15 points.
Genesis Prep plays host to Clark Fork on Saturday at Post Falls Middle School.

COEUR d’ALENE — Kelly Ruebke had 24 points for the 3A Panthers in a nonleague win against the 1A Division II Knights at Holy Family Catholic School.
Sandy Faulkner had 10 points and 13 rebounds, Abby Bartlett 15 rebounds for Coeur d’Alene Charter (9-3), which lost 73-52 to Lakeside on Tuesday in Plummer.
“We just took care of the boards tonight,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Doug Grant said. “We played them on Tuesday and took one on the chin, so I challenged the girls to play more disciplined, and I couldn’t be prouder of the way they responded. We didn’t really change anything, just how we’re doing it, and I couldn’t be more proud of the defense tonight.”
Tommia Pakootas scored 17 points for Lakeside (8-1), which plays at Mullan on Jan. 13.
Coeur d’Alene Charter hosts Priest River at Canfield Middle School on Saturday.

BONNERS FERRY — Bella Murekatete had 16 points, 20 rebounds and five blocked shots in a losing effort for the Jaguars against the Badgers.
“We were playing really well and getting the shots we needed in the first half,” Genesis Prep coach Debbie Holte said. “The girls were playing really well, working hard and being successful. We came up a little short, but it was not for a lack of effort.”
Rachel Schroeder had 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists for Genesis Prep (6-2), which hosts Clark Fork on Saturday at Post Falls Middle School.
Kassy Skeen scored 20 points for Bonners Ferry (4-4).

• WRESTLING
Heavy snow and frigid temperatures in southern Idaho canceled Post Falls’ and Lakeland’s scheduled dual matches down there on Thursday.
Post Falls was scheduled to wrestle at Centennial High; and Lakeland was slated to wrestle Crook County (Nev.) and Idaho Falls at Caldwell.
Post Falls and Lakeland still headed south on Thursday, in hopes of competing at the Rollie Lane Invitational today and Friday at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.

FRUITLAND — Brayden Herbert won by a 15-1 major decision at 98 pounds and Isaiah Evans followed with a pin at 106 for the Tigers in a dual against the Grizzlies.
“That’s a very good team, and they’re going to be a trophy team at state,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said. “We just didn’t wrestle well coming off the bus ride. It’s going to be something our young team needs to do going forward.”
Timberlake competes in the 17th annual Rollie Lane Invitational today and Saturday at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.
