Sports roundup: Big Bend women win East opener

WENATCHEE — Big Bend women's basketball opened East region play with a road win against Wenatchee Valley 54-50.

The Vikings trailed by two points entering the final quarter before outscoring the Knights 19-13.

Sunnie Martinez led all scorers with 13 points in addition to her seven rebounds. Callie Gronning and Maryah Tipping also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Tipping notched a double-double with 12 rebounds.


Men's college basketball

Big Bend 86, Wenatchee Valley 85

WENATCHEE VALLEY — Joey Andrews hit a bank shot with less than five seconds left to send Big Bend past Wenatchee Valley 86-85.

The Knights pulled ahead after a shot in the post, 85-84, on their previous possession.

Jai Jai Ely drove the lane, but was blocked out of bounds. The Runnin' Vikes called timeout, setting up the play for Andrews.


Boys basketball

Oroville 48, Soap Lake 41

SOAP LAKE — Brayden Winters totaled 22 points, but Soap Lake dropped its game to Oroville 48-41.

The Eagles fell behind 9-0 in the first quarter and could not recover.

“Oroville may be the most complete team we faced,” head coach Agustin Pedregon said.

Jackson Wilks had eight points.


Girls basketball

Oroville 42, Soap Lake 29

SOAP LAKE — Soap Lake missed 16 free throws and lost to Oroville 42-29.

Samantha White scored a team-high 16 points.

“Girls played with an urgency tonight,” Pedregon said. “Something we've lacked all season long.


Moses Lake Christian Academy 24, Cascade Christian Academy 22

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake Christian Academy closed the game on a 13-1 run to beat Cascade Christian Academy 24-22.

Rylee Homesley and Kyersten Hunt scored 11 combined points in the fourth quarter. Hunt scored a team-high 11 points, made a go-ahead three-pointer and notched two steals to seal the win.

Eight-grader Aidyn Waldrop had six rebunds.
