A sporting chance to be in a movie

Movie magic heads to the Palouse this weekend when the ASUI-Kibbie Activity Center is transformed into a Hollywood film set.

And producers are looking for Palouse-area extras to take part.

The Kibbie Dome will help set the scene during filming of “The Last Champion,” Saturday in Moscow. The family-friendly wrestling drama is being directed by Glenn Withrow and stars Cole Hauser and Hallie Todd. It is set to be released in theaters in late 2017.

University Support Services Director Rob Anderson, who was approached by the film’s producers last summer, said he’s excited to welcome the project to campus.

“We are always looking for new events to bring to the Kibbie Dome,” he said. “This was a perfect project that once again shows how versatile our iconic UI facility can be.”

This week’s filming will take place following Saturday’s basketball game between the Vandals and Montana State. Tipoff for the game is 7 p.m. in the Cowan Spectrum and fans are encouraged to stay afterward to watch the filming and play a spectator in some of the movie’s wrestling match scenes. Comedian Jon Huck will perform and entertain spectators during setup of Saturday’s production. Promotional gifts and raffle prizes will be handed out over the course of the shoot.

There is no charge to take part in the filming. General admission tickets to the game are $7 for children, $11 for seniors and $13 for adults.

Additional filming will take place over the next week across the UI campus and the Palouse. Anyone interested in taking part in the production is asked to sign up at pacificnorthwestcasting.com prior to Saturday’s shoot.
